Freepik AI alternatives in 2026 (now Magnific)

Choose Krea for the closest like-for-like (many models, a node canvas and an official MCP server, from $9 a month), and Higgsfield for video-first presets. Choose Leonardo for a cheaper image plan with rollover, Runway for its own video models and a timeline, and Kuro when an agent does the work or you want to bring your own provider keys.

Why people look beyond Magnific

Freepik's AI suite was renamed Magnific on 28 April 2026, and freepik.com/pricing now redirects there. Its "Unlimited" is narrowing. At their next renewal, Premium+ and Business subscribers lose unlimited use of Nano Banana Pro, Nano Banana 2 at 2K and the GPT Image models. Unlimited never applied to the API or MCP and is for human use only.

Pay-per-use API access ended on 30 June 2026, so self-serve API keys now start with Business at $55 per seat per month, billed yearly, for at least two seats. There's no option to bring your own provider keys. Extra credits are forfeited when you cancel, the 30-day refund lapses after a single generation or download, and no bulk export of your creations is documented.

Each one, in a paragraph

Krea

Best for: The closest like-for-like: many models, a canvas and an agent, for less

Krea carries its own image models plus about fifty third-party ones, a node canvas, LoRA training and an in-app agent, starting at $9 a month. Its official MCP server works from Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. There's no stock library. Compute units differ by model and don't roll over, and the API is a separate dollar balance.

Higgsfield

Best for: Video-first creators who want presets and apps rather than a canvas

Higgsfield puts most flagship video models behind one plan, with ready-made ad templates, avatars, Soul characters and a hosted MCP server. It has no stock library and no in-app timeline. Subscription credits expire every cycle and packs last 90 days, Soul characters can't be exported, and inputs and outputs may be used for training outside business plans.

Leonardo

Best for: A cheaper image-first plan with a rollover bank

Leonardo starts at $12 a month, banks up to three months of unused tokens, and trains LoRA "Elements" on your own images. Its unlimited mode leaves out every premium third-party model, no per-model price list is published, and its MCP server has one image tool.

Runway

Best for: Runway's own video models, an editing model and a real timeline

Runway pairs Gen-4.5 and Aleph video editing with a wide third-party catalog, a multi-track timeline and a hosted MCP server. Its Unlimited plan is retired, Standard and Pro credits expire monthly, and video is generated at 720p.

Kuro

Best for: Agents doing the work, and your own provider keys

Kuro's hosted MCP server lets an agent make images, clips, voice-overs and music, keep them in a library and assemble storyboard films. You can store your own Replicate, fal, Higgsfield, Runware or Siray key, and a request one of them can run costs no Kuro credits. Top-ups never expire. A product is saved as a Subject from photos with no training. It's narrower than Magnific: no stock library, no timeline editor, and on Kling 3.0 Magnific is several times cheaper per clip.

When to stay with Magnific

Stay if you use the stock library, mockups and templates alongside generation, if your work runs mostly on the models Premium+ keeps unlimited in the web app, or if you depend on Spaces and its timeline editor. For a person working by hand inside its unlimited models, Magnific is hard to undercut.

How this list was made

Each product was researched from its own pricing, help center, documentation and terms pages, and each claim links to the page it came from. Several Magnific pages block automated reading, so we read them from search-engine copies of the same URLs. Nothing on this list was tested in a paid account.
