Runway alternatives in 2026, now that Unlimited is gone
Choose Kling AI for the cheapest native-audio video with long single takes, and Google Flow if you already pay for Google AI. Choose Luma for HDR single shots, Higgsfield for many models behind creator presets, and Kuro when an agent should make the film and keep the same subject in every scene.
Why people look beyond Runway
Runway retired its Unlimited plan. It hasn't been sold since 1 June 2026, and remaining subscribers move to the $95 Max plan on 30 November. The free "Unlimited Mode" left on Pro and Max covers only promoted models, and not over MCP.
Standard's 625 monthly credits buy about ten 5-second Gen-4.5 clips, and Standard and Pro credits expire every month. App and API credits are separate balances. Video is generated at 720p, ProRes export needs Max, the interface is English only, and Runway's terms let it train on your inputs and outputs.

Kling AI
Best for: Cheap native-audio video with long single takes
Kling 3.0 costs 30 credits for 5 seconds at 720p, about $0.40 at Standard's renewal price. It makes up to 15 seconds in one take with sound and multi-shot, and Kling 4.0 goes to 30 seconds. A saved Element Library keeps subjects consistent. Prices move, though: first months are discounted and the tiers changed within three months. The free tier is non-commercial, the API starts at a $700 package, and there's no official MCP server.

Google Flow
Best for: People who already pay for Google AI and want Veo with sound
Flow gives every subscriber 50 free credits a day on top of the plan's monthly credits. It runs Veo 3.1 with audio, has characters that keep both face and voice, and a Scenebuilder to sequence clips. Veo clips come in 4, 6 or 8 seconds, and the Quality model costs 100 credits per 8-second clip, which is ten a month on AI Pro. 4K is Ultra-only and credits don't roll over. There's no MCP: agents go through the Gemini API instead.

Luma
Best for: High-end single shots: HDR, EXR export, keyframes
Ray3.2 makes native HDR with 16-bit EXR export and takes up to 16 keyframes per clip, at about $0.30 for 5 seconds at 720p. 1080p costs four times that. There's no free tier ($30 to start) and no MCP, and Luma's terms let it train on paid users' inputs and outputs.

Higgsfield
Best for: Many video models behind creator presets and apps
Higgsfield puts most flagship video models (Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1) behind one plan, with Marketing Studio's ad templates, Soul characters and Cinema Studio for clips up to 30 seconds. Its MCP server works from Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor. Its prices are harder to pin down: the flagship isn't on its price table and its pages contradict each other. Subscription credits expire every cycle, unlimited use never applies through agents, and inputs and outputs may be used for training outside business plans.

Kuro
Best for: Films an agent makes and you can still edit, one scene at a time
A Kuro storyboard keeps a film editable scene by scene, with the same Subject in every shot. Rendering is free, and an agent can run the whole process over MCP. Kuro carries Seedance, Kling, Veo, Wan and Runway's own Gen-4.5 (50 credits for 5 seconds, $1.19 at Starter's rate). It has no timeline editor and none of Runway's editing models, such as Aleph.

When to stay with Runway
Stay if you edit footage with Aleph, use Ruby for HDR, need ProRes or image-sequence export, or rely on Runway's multi-track timeline and Agent. Runway's MCP server already works from Claude and ChatGPT, so agent access alone isn't a reason to move.
How this list was made
Each product was researched from its own pricing, help center, documentation and terms pages, and each claim links to the page it came from. Nothing on this list was tested in a paid account. Per-clip dollar figures are arithmetic on each vendor's published credit rates and plan prices. The 2026 roundups also name Pika and LTX Studio. We left them out because we hadn't researched them to the same standard when this page was written.
Next check due by December 1, 2026.
