Convert JPG to PNG
Some sites and editors ask for PNG. Drop a JPG here and download a PNG of it at the same size.
Your file never leaves this device. Everything runs in your browser.
How it works
- Drop a HEIC, WebP, PNG, JPG, GIF or AVIF picture.
- Pick JPG, PNG or WebP, and the quality for JPG or WebP.
- Press Convert and download the picture.
Questions
Does converting to PNG improve the quality?
No. The PNG keeps exactly what the JPG holds, without losing any more, but it can't bring back detail the JPG already compressed away. Expect a larger file.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same solid background. To cut out the subject, use Kuro's background remover.
Which format should I pick?
JPG for photos you send or post: small, and opened by everything. PNG for screenshots, logos and anything with transparency: it keeps every pixel. WebP is smaller than both for the same look, and every current browser opens it, but some older apps don't.
Does the picture lose quality?
PNG keeps every pixel of what the browser read. JPG and WebP compress; at the default quality of 90 the difference is hard to see. Converting a JPG to PNG can't bring back what the JPG already lost.
What happens to the photo's metadata?
The new file has none: no camera details, no date, no location. The picture is turned the right way up first.
Does my picture get uploaded?
No. It's read and written by this page, in your browser. HEIC photos are read with libheif, which this page loads when you drop one.
