When to reach for it

The cheapest Veo by a wide margin, 21 credits for a five-second 720p take against 83.5 on the full model, and the right choice for the shots nobody will study. B-roll, establishing plates, background footage, anything where the sound is atmosphere rather than content.

Two constraints to plan around. Audio is always generated, with no silent mode at all, so if you need a mute clip from this family the answer is Fast rather than Lite. And at 1080p the only available duration is eight seconds; the shorter four- and six-second steps exist at 720p only. That combination catches people out when they ask for a short 1080p take and get a validation error rather than a clip.

No reference images. Like Fast, it accepts a last frame, so frame-chaining works, but character continuity does not. Two aspect ratios, as with the rest of the family.

How to prompt Veo 3.1 Lite

Veo 3.1 Lite takes the same script and sound notation as Veo 3.1, but its sound is always on — a silent clip has to come from Veo 3.1 or Fast — and it has no reference-image slot. Its 1080p runs only at eight seconds.
