## Which one

Both take references, both handle the ordinary run of product shots, people and scenes, and at 1K they cost nearly the same. The choice is about what the picture has to get right.

Seedream 5 Pro is the finishing model of its family. Against Seedream 5 Lite it renders finer skin, fabric and complex light, follows an explicit lighting direction more closely, and holds a face more steadily across up to ten references. It works best on a prompt written as an inventory of what is in the frame, in depth order, kept under about eighty words, with references carrying the detail the words cannot.

Nano Banana 2.1 reads a prompt the way an editor does and is the family that best preserves a reference's identity. That is why Seedream's own guide sends a face, a product or an earlier frame that must be matched closely to Nano Banana. It seats fourteen references against Seedream 5 Pro's ten. It also frames fourteen aspect ratios against eight. Both have 21:9; what Seedream lacks is 4:5, 5:4 and the strips from 1:8 to 8:1.

At 1K Nano Banana 2.1 is 3 credits and Seedream 5 Pro is 4. At 2K it is 4.5 credits against 7.5. Only Nano Banana goes to 4K, at 9.5 credits. So Seedream 5 Pro costs more at every size it offers, and what the extra buys is finish rather than capacity.

Two things to know about Seedream 5 Pro before building on it. It screens every request for sexual content once prompt and references are combined, and a blocked brief needs rewriting rather than resending. And it has failed at the provider on some pairs of references that Seedream 5 Lite took without trouble, so a multi-reference run that fails is worth trying on Lite. On both models, rewording a prompt to fix one detail re-rolls the whole picture; edit the finished image with only the change instead.

So identity, unusual shapes, 4K or volume go to Nano Banana 2.1. A single frame that will be looked at closely, carried by skin, cloth and light, goes to Seedream 5 Pro, ideally after the composition has been found somewhere cheaper. Seedream 5 Lite, at 3 credits for 2K or 3K, is that cheaper place within the same family.

## When neither is the right pick

Each model's prompting guide names the jobs it hands to another model. Both lists, as the guides write them:

- The canvas is 4:5, 5:4 or a strip such as 1:4 or 8:1: [Nano Banana 2.1](https://meetkuro.com/models/nano-banana-2.1.md).
- A face, a product or an earlier frame has to be matched closely from references: [Nano Banana 2.1](https://meetkuro.com/models/nano-banana-2.1.md).

## Both are one pick in the same composer.

Switching models does not move your references or your library.
